“The chamber announcement is the second recent endorsement that could bolster Gillespie’s credibility with establishment Republicans and swing voters disillusioned by President Donald Trump.”

After endorsing an all-Democratic slate four years ago, the political arm of the Northern Virginia Chamber of Commerce is backing Republican Ed Gillespie for governor and dividing its down-ballot picks.

In endorsements revealed this week, the chamber’s political action committee, NOVABIZPAC, said it will support Democratic Attorney General Mark Herring for re-election and Republican state Sen. Jill Vogel, R-Fauquier, for lieutenant governor.     . . .

“Mr. Gillespie committed to oppose any effort to roll back the landmark HB2313 transportation funding legislation and to support the long-term financial and operational viability of Metro,” Northern Virginia Chamber President Jim Corcoran said.

“He also vocalized his firm support of Virginia’s long-standing right-to-work laws and vowed to oppose bills like North Carolina’s HB2 that would threaten Virginia’s reputation as an open and welcoming commonwealth.”
